For some, finding the right vacation destination can be a daunting task, especially during the February School Vacation Week. First, the question of where to go, followed in short order by more mundane, but none the less important such as costs, flights, schedules, hotels, meals, sightseeing…sometimes the list of things to do is so great that something the industry refers to as, “Vacation Block” sets in, and another possible “bucket list” vacation disappears. If you ever considered Ireland, this might be the time!
But first, let me introduce myself to those who do not know me. I am Bob Mallon, and I began School Time Travel after my 46 year teaching career ended when I retired in2011. During most of those years, I was teaching at either Silver Lake Regional Middle School or Pembroke High School. Some of you might remember me because of the trips I did with my own students to such destinations as Washington, DC, Innsbruck, Austria and China. Others may have participated in staff trips I helped to organize and plan to places like Spain, Alaska, Costa Rica and Italy as well.
When that day in June of 2011 rolled around, and I had, “hung up” my grade book, the last thing I was thinking about was starting a new career, but when a small school in weymouth contacted me and asked if I would be able to help them organize a school trip to Washington, I thought, “why not, I had nothing to do, anyway.” Two years later, after adding three more schools, School Tim Travel was born in 2013.
Over the years, parents would often ask, “Why don’t you do something for adults?” My answer was always the same, “I’m too busy,” or more truthfully, “who would really be interested in going?” Finally, after Beth Asmus (former science teacher at Pembroke Community Middle School) began working with me, we decided to add a New York City Holiday Shopping Trip scheduled for December 1, 2018. I figured, “what did we have to loose?” Within 12 hours of advertising on FaceBook, the trip sold out, and so we added additional trips for the next 4 Saturdays, and once again, in short order, they sold out as well! Based on our success, we decided to add more adult options for the spring and summer season, and those were well populated with adults hungry for new ideas and travel.
And then some really interesting ideas appeared on our radar. How about a three day trip to Niagara Falls (Canadian side), and most exciting of all, an 10-day/8-night, all inclusive trip to Ireland. During the spring, we met with George Hook of Irish Rugby Tours in Dublin to discuss the possibilities of doing such a trip, and with his years of experience to guide us, we put together what we believe will be a vacation never to be forgotten.
The trip includes:
R/T non-stop air Boston to Dublin (Aer Lingus Airlines)
All hotel accommodations – 3 nights Dublin, 2 nights Galway, 1 night Limerick, 2 nights Cork
All sightseeing and entrance fees
Transportation while in Ireland (motor coach)
Full time Irish tour guide
And as a BONUS, round trip motor coach transportation from locations on the South Shore to and from Boston’s Logan Airport.
